A false report of a gun on the grounds caused brief panic at the Spring Fest and Fair Saturday evening, but the fair continues.

The incident “created understandable panic,” Lincoln Civic Center director Quinn Jordan said.

“First and foremost, we take every situation and report seriously until reported otherwise by Brookhaven PD and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office,” he said. “To my knowledge, everyone is safe that attended the fair. I do know in the panic of the moment, a few people got pushed around but no reported injuries. From early investigations by both SO and PD, there were no gun/guns nor were there any shots fired.”

The fair concludes today at 8 p.m. with rides, food and fun until closing.

“I can promise you we won’t let false reports paralyze our events,” Jordan said. “We will do everything in our power to ensure those that attend are safe.”
