Benefit concert for gospel singer is Saturday

Friends and family of gospel singer Tyrone Porter will host a benefit for him Saturday in Hazlehurst.
“A Night Honoring the Living Legacy of Tyrone Porter” will begin at 6 p.m. at the Copiah County Ministerial Alliance, 17160 Hwy. 51. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
A resident of Sontag in Lawrence County, Porter has been involved in the gospel and quartet industry for more than 30 years. Porter has had kidney disease, and had to have both kidneys removed. He is on dialysis three days a week, and is unable to travel.
Some of the guests coming to celebrate Porter will Doug Williams of the Williams Brothers, Harvey Watkins of the Canton Spirituals, Huey Williams of the Jackson Southernaires, Bishop Neal Roberson, Bob Marovich of Journal of Gospel Music, The Lighthouse Singers, Marva McKinley and The Friends of Tyrone Porter Choir. Also, Dr. M.J. Williams of Springhill Christian Center, Dr. Victor Dixon of Egypt Hill MB Church, Bishop L. W. Bolton of Bolton Crusade Ministry, Pastor Victor Hill of Bethlehem MB Church, Pastor Reginald Russell of East Mt. Olive Dexter and Pastor Tyrone McLaurin of Pine Grove MB Church.
