Monticello National Guard commander promoted

- US Army National Guard Col. John C. Nipp, commanding general of the 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command based out of Monticello, will be promoted to brigadier general June 4.
Mississippi Army National Guard Col. John C. Nipp, commanding general of the 184th Expeditionary Sustainment Command based out of Monticello, will be promoted to brigadier general.
Major General Janson D. Boyles, adjutant general of Mississippi, made the announcement Friday. The ceremony will be Saturday, June 4, at 1 p.m. at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Tupelo.
Nipp is a Saltillo native and has served in the Army National Guard for more than 31 years. He has served at company and battalion command levels, and key staff positions across the Guard. He has deployed in support of combat operations on three occasions — Operation Rescue Hope, and twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
During the past 15 years, Nipp has focused on the design, development and installation of cyber infrastructure enhancements for the Department of Defense community. In his civilian career, he is Director of Cyber Growth Programs for Command Post Technologies based out of Suffolk, Virginia.
