Supervisors approve DA’s, sheriff’s requests

The Lincoln County Board of Supervisors heard from several people during its June 20 regular meeting, including the county’s district attorney and sheriff.

Sheriff Steve Rushing reported that he sent deputies to North Carolina to pick up a prisoner instead of letting North Carolina officials bring the prisoner back to Mississippi. “It would have cost about $3,500 to do that, so I sent our deputies to pick up the prisoner and it cost $600 or so,” the sheriff said. The sheriff also asked and received permission to send two officers to training about dealing with sex offenders.

District Attorney Dee Bates asked supervisors to approve agreeing with a court order to pay two employees a total of $820.62 over a three-month period, July 1-Sept. 3, for work with his office.

Bates also asked for Lincoln County to pay its share – $3,217.29 – for a county employee’s 240 hours of comp time, which had been begun during previous district attorneys’ policies. Pike County will pay $3,577 and Walthall $1,785.71 as their share, with the most of the money going into the PERS system. Bates explained the amounts owed were based on each county’s population.

The board approved both requests.

The board also acknowledged the May 2022 delinquent tax report and approved meal count sheets for Week 35 and 36, two property transfers, Inventory control sheets and personnel reports.
