Brookhaven native Elbert White, a 1981 Brookhaven High School graduate, recently served as a member of the Distinguished Young Women of Nebraska judges panel.

DYW is specifically for high school junior girls, focusing on excellence in scholarship, leadership and talent. White was part of a six-member panel assigning $7,650 in cash scholarships and more than $2 million in tuition scholarship opportunities.

White and other panel members evaluated applicants in an interview, aerobic fitness, talent and public speaking. A separate educator evaluated scholastics.
