It’s the heat and the humidity — Heat exhaustion likely all week long

The heat and humidity will continue to be a problem all week long.

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued an elevated risk caution for Southwest Mississippi and a large portion of the rest of the state. The elevated risk extends from Tuesday into the weekend, primarily from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day. Highs in the mid- to upper-90s and heat indices of 106 to 110 degrees will be the average.

Monday has a limited risk, with temps in the mid-90s and a heat index around 105. Fatigue and heat exhaustion is possible with prolonged outdoor activity Monday. Heat exhaustion is likely with prolonged outdoor activity the remainder of the week.

NWS suggests residents stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and take frequent breaks if working outdoors.

 

Rain and storms

Monday will see a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after 10 a.m.

Rain is not expected again until Thursday, when a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms returns after 1 p.m. and extends through Friday afternoon.

Saturday and Sunday will bring 20 percent chances of showers and storms.
