Showers and storms are expected Monday afternoon across the area, mainly 4-9 p.m. A 35 percent chance of storms and a 58 percent chance of rain is forecast, bringing a little more than one-tenth an inch of rain.
Dangerous heat is expected with continued high temperatures near 93 and high humidity. Near the I-20 corridor, the index could be as high as 110 degrees this afternoon. Most other areas will see a heat index of near 105.
The National Weather Service cautions residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and take frequent breaks.
High temps will drop into the 80s Tuesday through Saturday. Chances of rain and storms will rise, however, to 70-80 percent daily through Thursday, dropping to 50 percent and 30 percent Friday and Saturday.
