JACKSON — Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy any dry weather while it is still here. The National Weather Service Office in Jackson is calling for localized heavy rain in Southwest Mississippi Thanksgiving day.
According to the forecast, the threat of rain is greatest from the afternoon to evening on Thanksgiving. It should hit as far north as Meridian and down to south of Hattiesburg across the state of Mississippi. Brookhaven specifically has a 70 percent chance of rain.
NWS forecast said some locations may encounter pockets of locally heavier rain dropping anywhere from an inch to three inches of rain. If this occurs or multiple rounds of rain occurs over the same location, there could be some minor localized flooding concerns. Drive safe and be aware of local water conditions along creeks, rivers and bayous as they may become inundated.
Friday has a 50 percent chance of rain and north east wind at 5-to-10 which is perfect weather if you are a duck or a duck hunter. Mississippi’s duck season opens Friday and lasts until Nov. 27 before closing until Dec. 2 to Dec. 4.
