Weather Update: Tornado Watch extended

BROOKHAVEN — A tornado watch issued for Lincoln County was extended until 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night. Showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast this evening with a high near 72, south winds blowing 10 to 15mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent.

New rainfall amounts could be between a half inch to three quarters of an inch. Brookhaven received three inches of rain in 12 hours and it could be more by the end of the day. A flood watch is also in effect until 6 p.m.

Half of Lincoln County is in an enhanced risk for tornadoes, strong winds and hail while the southern half of Lincoln County and most of Lawerence County are at a moderate risk for tornadoes and hail. NWS Jackson said tornadoes are likely in the moderate risk zone.

Power is out in in Lincoln, Copiah and Franklin Counties according to Southwest Electric and Entergy Outage maps. Southwest Electric reports 35 customers are without power in Copiah County, 70 in Franklin County and 25 in Lincoln County. Entergy reports 225 are without power in Lincoln County, 61 in Copiah County and 11 in Franklin County.
