BROOKHAVEN — If you have plans to do any burning of leaves, brush piles or even a campfire it might be best to get it in Tuesday afternoon while you still can. Wednesday is forecast to be a gully washer with a slight risk of severe storms and flooding.
NWS Jackson elevated the storm threat for Lincoln County and the surrounding area from marginal chance to slight chance Tuesday morning. Severe storms are possible Wednesday afternoon and into the night with chance of quarter size hail, strong and damaging gusts of wind.
Those storms could produce tornadoes so it is best to stay weather aware Wednesday. The closer the storm front gets the more accurate of a time window will be available so check back in the morning to see any updates.
Flooding is another risk for the area. NWS Jackson warns there is a slight chance of river flooding and flash flooding of low lying areas and urban areas. If you encounter a flooded roadway remember to turn around and don’t drown. Floodwaters could wash away the road hidden under the water’s surface or those flood waters could sweep away a vehicle off of the road.
