BROOKHAVEN — Severe weather will hit Lincoln County and the surrounding areas between 5 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday. NWS Jackson upgraded the risk from slight to enhanced risk.

The storm front is capable of producing 60 to 70 mile per hour wind gusts and will be damaging. Tornadoes could spawn and small hail is also likely for the area. Flooding is another concern tonight with 1 to 2 inches of rain expected to fall this evening.

High amounts of rain could cause rivers to swell and flash flooding of low lying and inundated areas. NWS Jackson advises drivers to avoid driving through flood waters and to turn around and don’t drown.
