Weather Update: Rain should continue, severe threat extended to 5 p.m.

BROOKHAVEN — Sheets of rain have fallen in waves since about 10:40 a.m. Thursday in Brookhaven. NWS Jackson forecasts severe storms to pose a threat to the area throughout the day with high winds, hail and tornadoes possible.

A tornado watch is currently in effect for south Mississippi until 5 p.m. The chance of rain is 100 percent with sustained wind speeds at 15 to 20 mph.

Brookhaven and Lincoln County School Districts have not cancelled classes but did cancel all after school activities.

Brookhaven Academy was scheduled to play Madison St. Joe in the MAIS playoffs tonight at 6 p.m. but the game has been moved to Friday. BA will kickoff at 5 p.m. against the Bruins on the campus of Ridgeland High School in Jackson.

Southwest Electric reports 38 outages across their coverage area as of 1 p.m. but those customers are in Wilkinson County Thursday. Entergy reports 11 outages in Lincoln County and 16 in Lawerence County.
