Severe weather could threaten Friday

JACKSON — Severe weather could threaten Lincoln County and Lawerence County this Friday. There is a high chance you will at least need a rain jacket or umbrella to stay dry.

National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts strong damaging winds and isolated thunderstorms to move through the area.

Showers and a possible thunderstorm could hit before 1 p.m. with a chance of showers in the afternoon on Friday. The high will be near 65 with a south by southwest wind blowing around 15 mph and becoming north by northwest  in the afternoon.

Wind gusts could hit as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation Friday is 90 percent with possible amounts of rainfall between three quarters to one inch.

Friday night will have a 10 percent chance of rain with the low around 35 degrees. It is best to stay weather aware as the forecast can always change.

Mississippi has seen 15 tornadoes this year spawning out of severe storm outbreaks with one of them touching down in the Little Bahalia community northeast of Brookhaven. The tornado in Little Bahalia touched down on February 16 and traveled 1.1 miles. It was an EF1.
