Wesson finishes regular season in three-way-tie, hosts district tournament Friday

WESSON — Franklin County beat Wesson four courts to three Monday afternoon meaning there is a three way tie between the Bulldogs, Cobras and Raleigh going into their district tournament Friday. All three teams have a 2-1 record against district opponents, all 4-3 wins and 3-4 losses. Magee finished last in the district. 

Wesson boys singles player Coleman Bonds won his court Monday 6-1, 6-2, girls singles player Macey Loy won her court 6-1, 6-2. Mixed doubles players Brendon Duguid and Allison Hamilton won their court 6-0, 6-2.

Head Coach Taylor Beasley Burke said the district tournament begins at 8 a.m. Friday and will determine the individual players going to state.

“We are ready and excited to host,” Burke said. “We will have more people here to cheer on the team. Admission is free but we will be selling concessions.” 

Wesson plays its home matches at Co-Lin Community College. The Cobra’s district tournament will be held on those same courts located off of Mission Hill Road on Lake Road. There should be some excellent tennis being played on Friday. 

“Macey Loy and Coleman Bonds could do great in the tournament,” Burke said. “I have high expectations. Bond and Loy have won all of their district matches and mixed doubles have won all of their district matches.”
