BROOKHAVEN — Southwest Electric announced it would build its district offices at Linbrook in January of 2021 and the work has continued. Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce director Garrick Combs said the company is in the final stages of design.
The massive project will be regional headquarters for Southwest Energy. Combs said the new campus would be 65 acres in size. Southwest is in the final stages of detailed engineering and architectural design.
“With that large parcel there are a million details they are working through. They are also working with their civil engineer in order to secure wetland permits from the Corp of Engineers before they can move onto the site with construction equipment,” Combs said. “The project is on track and we continue to maintain a close working relationship with that company and its executive team.”
The building site is near where Lin-Brook’s two spec buildings are located. One of those spec buildings was purchased by Keystone Electric in 2020. Brookhaven’s Chamber of Commerce built a new spec building to find another business a home.
Linbrook business park’s new spec building is 50,000 square feet with the potential to expand to 150,000 square feet. Combs said the Chamber hopes to find a company to purchase or sign a lease agreement on the spec building this year. He had no update on the new spec building but told The Daily Leader in March they were still marketing with Agracell and Cooperative Energy. “We have had several productive meetings and showings of the building but we do not have a purchase and sales agreement or lease agreement as yet,” he said in March.
