MAGEE — Loyd Star’s third game against Lake was set for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Loyd Star but forecasted rain has changed the venue plans to the Magee Sportsplex. NWS Jackson forecasts a 60 percent chance of rain Wednesday in Brookhaven.
Lake won game two at Lake 5-1 to force a game three in the MHSAA softball playoff series. Rain canceled the game originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Soggy field conditions and forecasted showers moved the game to a neutral site so Game Three could be played before the next round of the playoffs starts tomorrow.
Loyd Star won the first game in the series 10-6 nearly a week ago.
The winner of tonights game at the Magee Sportsplex will advance to play Puckett in the semi-final round of the MHSAA 2A softball playoffs. First pitch is 6 p.m.
Yellowjackets rained out of season
Rain swept through the Lincoln County area Tuesday afternoon and Enterprise was unfortunately washed out of the MHSAA 1A softball playoffs in game two against Ethel. The Yellowjackets trailed just 7-6 after six innings of play but when rain dumped out of the sky in the seventh inning it brought the season to an end.
Both teams had tried to beat out the rain by getting an early start. Ethel had an 8-6 lead in the top of the seventh when the game was called but the last completed inning would have been the sixth inning. Enterprise had six hits in the game.
The Jackets finish the season 21-10 after their third round defeat.
Down on the coast, Enterprise’s baseball team mounted a late rally but fell three runs short of tying Resurrection Catholic to lose 5-2 in game one. Game two is set for Friday at 7 p.m. with Enterprise trying to force a game three in the series at home.
