BROOKHAVEN — Monday was a day of celebration for the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors. Tristan Peavey and the Mississippi State Extension Service County Office held a breakfast to celebrate the dairy industry and brought a dairy cow to the front steps of the Lincoln County Courthouse.
Lincoln County has one active dairy farm based in the county. David Nunnery’s Dairy in Ruth is still active and has been for the past 23 years, he said. In 2015, Lincoln County was home to 10 dairy farms but they have declined since then.
Peavey said it would be the last year for Dairy Days at the Brookhaven Farmers Market. After this year, the MSU Extension Service Lincoln County Office will host Ag-days to celebrate the agricultural industry in Lincoln County instead.
Monday was a day of celebration for two Lincoln County graduates. Loyd Star valedictorian Carson Hughey and Brookhaven High School’s Bailey Reid received scholarships from the board of supervisors of $500 each. Reid is the son of Chris Reid, the director of the Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency. The students will attend Co-Lin Community College this fall.
