Severe storms pose risk to Southwest Mississippi Saturday

BROOKHAVEN — Forget smoke from wildfires. Severe storms could threaten Southwest Mississippi this weekend. A majority of Lincoln County is under a slight risk in the severe storms expected Saturday.

The National Weather Service in Jackson warns there could be severe storms producing 60 mph wind gusts which could damage property and trees. Hail is expected to be up to a quarter size. Storms could hit the area between 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday night.

Isolated showers and scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast Friday mostly after 1 p.m. The chance of precipitation tomorrow is 50 percent. Highs will be 92 with the heat index at 98.

Expect a tenth of an inch of rain but localized rainfall in thunderstorms could be higher.
