Downtown moves through thunderstorms

BROOKHAVEN — The National Weather Service in Jackson had warned of the potential for hail in Brookhaven as a storm moved through the area around the lunch hour. Along Railroad Avenue in Downtown Brookhaven, rain poured down as people scurried to and fro.
Two trains roared their horns through town, cautiously chugging along. No hail or major wind gusts came through the downtown area but NWS Jackson warned of potential hail up to tennis ball size in the Auburn and Bogue Chitto communities.
The chance of rain continues to be 70 percent today with the high temperature dropping down to 89.
Power Outages
Magnolia Electric reports 167 customers are without power in Lincoln County and 278 customers in Lawerence County are without power. Southwest Electric reports 77 customers in Lincoln County are currently without power and 11 in Copiah County. Entergy reports just 351 customers are without power in Lincoln County and 10 in Copiah County.
Reports of damages
Shannon Miller with Brookhaven Academy said they had some rain leak through an area connected to the new building under construction but there was no severe damage to the school.
