Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 5 p.m.

BROOKHAVEN — A Severe Thunderstorm watch should expire by the time Girls Night Out gets rolling. Power companies are out and about in the area restoring power to customers as another round of storms are moving in. NWS Jackson issued the severe thunderstorm watch for the county until 5 p.m.

NWS Jackson issued a separate specified warning that a thunderstorm with 60 mph winds could drop golf ball sized hail in Brookhaven until 12:30 p.m.

Entergy reports 439 customers are without power in Lincoln County and just 10 customers in Copiah are without power. Southwest Electric reports 200 customers are without power this morning in Lincoln County and 239 customers are without power in Copiah County. Magnolia Electric reports 236 customers are still without power but power has been restored to 151 customers.

Girls Night Out is scheduled for tonight just in time for more potential severe weather. Brookhaven and the surrounding area is under a slight risk this evening for severe weather producing 70 mph wind gusts, hail quarter to golf ball size and tornadoes can not be ruled out. The chance of rain today is 70 percent with heat index values hitting 102.

National Weather Service in Jackson gives the same severe storm outlook for the area Friday and warns of a marginal risk of storms on Saturday.
