BROOKHAVEN — A bright yellow excavator stuck out like a sore thumb along Brookway Boulevard in front of the former Speedee Cash building by Paul Barnett Nissan. It was just a few intersections down from Popeyes which closed for maintenance with spray painted signs and yellow caution tape.

Brookhaven Building Inspector David Fearn said the Speedee Cash building was set to be demolished.
“As soon as they get me their permit application and permit fee another business will build there,” Fearn said.

Across the Boulevard, the former Rite Aid location remains empty and there is no update to what will happen there, Fearn said. T.H. Perkins Furniture consolidated and moved to its location at 520 Brookway Boulevard earlier in 2023.

Huey Magoos is also reaching the final steps to open up shop. Fearn said they were pouring concrete for a sidewalk today and could be open by mid July to late July.
