No break from the heat this Sunday

BROOKHAVEN — Saturday’s warmest temperature recorded in Brookhaven was 98 degrees with a heat index value of 104 at about 5 p.m. Sunday’s forecast calls for slightly cooler air temperatures but the heat index value should be higher than Saturday.

NWS Jackson forecasts Sunday to hit highs of 96 with a heat index value of 106. Showers and thunderstorms are possible with a 30 percent chance of precipitation Sunday and into Sunday night. the low Saturday night will hit 75 degrees and Sunday night should drop to 72.

Saturday’s high of 98 is still six degrees lower than the record of 104 set July 1, 1954. The forecasted low is 17 degrees warmer than the lowest temperature recorded on July 1 when it got down to 58 degrees in 1923. Sunday’s forecasted high of 96 is 4 degrees warmer than the average and eight degrees cooler than the record set July 2, 1902.
