Severe storms threaten this afternoon

BROOKHAVEN — National Weather Service in Jackson warns severe storms could be a threat Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon in Southwest Mississippi. Chances of rain are as high as 70 percent and rainfall could be higher than a tenth to a quarter of an inch in thunderstorms.

Storms could bring damaging wind gusts and hail up to a quarter in size Tuesday and Wednesday. The rain could be a break from intense heat last week but temperatures will still be warm throughout July 4th. The high is 92 with a heat index of 102.

Tuesday night will cool down to a low of 71 with Wednesday shooting right back up to a high of 90 and heat index value of 99. There is a 70 percent chance of rain Wednesday. Thursday has the greatest chance of rain with a 90 percent chance of precipitation.
