BOGUE CHITTO — Lonny Ray Lane will no longer be a public road. Supervisors voted to abandon the road as publicly maintained after a request was made by the family.

Lincoln County Administrator Daniel Calcote said the road was made public a while ago while Lonny Ray ran his day camp out there and it saw more usage. Ray died on Dec. 21, 2020 while the camp was closed due to COVID-19.

“No one comes out there any more and the family agreed to just gate it off. They all agree and want to make it private,” Calcote said. “We can abandon a road. We have done some work out there but it is up to y’all.”

Lincoln County Board Attorney Greg Malta said the statute allows for road abandonment but no set procedure. He advised the board to reverse the process to dedicate it as a public road if the owners agreed to it.

Supervisors made a motion to approve the reversal which will change the sign from green for public to blue for private.
