BROOKHAVEN — A Brookhaven man is the new owner of what was Cracker Barrel North and is transforming the inside of the station. The Shell station at 806 US51 will remain a Shell Gas Station.

Harry Kumar, a graduate of Brookhaven High School, said he purchased the station in July and immediately closed the store for renovations. Kumar’s sisters are also graduates from Brookhaven Academy.

Kumar said he is putting in new floors, repainting the walls, installing a new countertop and improving the beer cave. His hope is to be open again in a few more weeks as the A1 Stop No. 11.

“We are here for the local community and we have been here for a while. I grew up here and I went to high school here,” Kumar said. “We love Brookhaven. We will still have barbecue and it will be freshened up on the inside. We will have other food items too.”

He said he has several A1 stops in Brookhaven including the old Ford Crain on Industrial Park Road, Handy Mart on US51 and 84 and a gas station by the Brookhaven Country Club. The pumps outside the shell are still on so customers are able to get gas there 24/7.
