BROOKHAVEN — Hospice care expands in Southwest Mississippi with Gentiva Hospice cutting a ribbon at 706 US51 North Friday afternoon. Gentiva will be able to serve the last 10 counties needed to offer service in all 82 counties with the location.

Administrator Karen Childs said Gentiva will serve Copiah, Walthal, Lincoln, Lawrence, Jefferson, Franklin, Amite, Pike, Wilkinson and Adams Counties with the new office. She said Gentiva is excited to get the ball rolling in the area.

“It is amazing and today it is groundbreaking to come out here in the community,” Childs said. “We will help others get the care they need and deserve at the end of their life. To me hospice is about allowing those at the end of life to gain the care, respect and dignity they deserve. This office will allow us to go further into the counties.”

She said the company is great to work for and her staff are a group of compassionate teammates. Gentiva is a national company with 38 states and 430 locations served across the US. The company offers personal, hospice and palliative care and employs local people to take care of local people.

Childs said her staff has the passion and drive to take care of those who need it. Gentiva’s office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and has a 24/7 on call service.

Garrick Combs, executive director of the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber is thrilled to have Gentiva come to town.

“It is vital to our community and it is an important service. That can’t be overstated,” Combs said. “Y’all are dedicated and called to this. I’m sure this can be taxing but we appreciate the assistance you give.”
