Forecasted temperatures warmer than long term average

BROOKHAVEN — Temperatures are forecast to hit 98 Wednesday with a 20 percent chance of showers. Extreme heat stress risk will continue into this weekend according to the National Weather Service of Jackson. 

Wednesday’s forecasted high is seven degrees cooler than the record high of 105 degrees set August 2, 2010. Historically the average high/low temperatures from July 27 to August 15 has been a low of 72 degrees and 93 degrees. If you are curious the record low was set on August 2, 1965 with 59 degrees.

High temps could reach 100 degrees throughout Southwest Mississippi the rest of the week. The forecast is constantly changing though and the temperature has yet to hit 100 in Brookhaven according to temperature data from the NWS.

Heat indices could hit 110 to 120 which means heat stroke is imminent with prolonged outdoor activity. 

Monday has the highest chance of rain with a 40 percent chance of showers. From Wednesday to Sunday there is at least a 20 percent chance of some precipitation.
