Heat returns Thursday

BROOKHAVEN — National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts heat to stay in the area until Monday and rain chances are falling. Severe weather brought a cool break from the weather for much of Tuesday as temperatures hit a high of 93.
Wednesday the forecasted high temperature was 97 degrees and a heat index of 110. Thursday will warm up to 98 degrees and a heat index of 110. Forecasted wind gusts could reach 25 mph tomorrow but sustained winds will be between 5-to-10 mph.
Friday temperatures will reach 99 degrees just in time for high school football to kickoff. Saturday and Sunday the forecasted high is 100 degrees. Rain chances will range between 20 percent to 40 percent Saturday through Monday. Tuesday, NWS Jackson forecasted a 50 percent chance of rain for Monday.
Heat is still a risk for Southwest Mississippi. NWS Jackson warns heat stroke is increasingly likely with prolonged outdoor activity. Conditions remain dry and dangerous for burning.
Mississippi Forestry Commission issued burn bans for Lawerence, Amite and Walthall Counties.
