BROOKHAVEN — Business owner Adam Smith was born and raised in Brookhaven and he has opened a new company in town. Smith and his wife Sandy are now owners of the Speedy Wash Laundry on 664 Industrial Park Road NE.
Adam Smith once owned Smith Bros Collision Center with his brother until two years ago when the company was purchased by Caliber Collision. Smith is a real estate agent with LandMax Properties.
He started looking into Commercial Properties and acquired the Speedy Wash building and leased it out a year ago. Smith considered the laundromat business and decided to open up a laundromat in town.
“We have some nice laundromats in town but they are on the other side of town east of US51,” Smith said. “There are not any laundromats close to this location. I thought it could be a well needed service there. Several apartment buildings are nearby and it could help the residents. Industrial is heavily traveled and we thought it was a good thing to bring to the area.”
Smith said his wife Sandy was also born and raised in Brookhaven. She came up with the name Speedy Wash as the more creative person. They both worked hard on opening the business over the past four to five months.
Local businesses and contractors from Brookhaven were hired to do the plumbing, electrical and carpentry work. Speedy Wash thanked several businesses for their service in getting the business up and running. Robbie Jackson with Ross Jackson Plumbing, Hugh Mathis with Mathis Construction, Phillip Brown with Brown Electric, Black Widow Designs, Kris Xifos with Brookhaven Water Department, Mo with Flame Painting, Cairey Beth Wallace with Market4you, Kayla Walter with Arfullyhis.org, Ronald Rushing with Rushing Dozer works, Ole Brook Security and CenterPoint Energy all contributed to the project.
“I knew a lot of the contractors in Brookhaven and used local people. Everything we did I wanted to use local people I’ve known and good local businesses,” Smith said. “Brookhaven is our home town and it means a lot to own a business here. I see this as a chance to serve the community in Brookhaven.”
Equipment at the Speedy Wash is made by Speed Queen and loads can be washed and dried in 45 minutes. Smith said they have some larger equipment to handle washing of bed sheets, pillow cases, blankets and comforters. He said it seemed to be a common need.
Speedy Wash Laundry is open from 7a.m. to 8p.m. Monday through Sunday.
