BROOKHAVEN — Rain could find Lincoln County this week with a 70 percent chance of rain starting Monday. It may not be enough to bring the area out of a drought but would be a good start.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely between 1 and 4 p.m. according to the National Weather Service. Rainfall totals could be between a quarter inch to half of an inch with higher amounts expected in thunderstorms.

A West Southwest Wind will bring a nice breeze around 5 mph today. The high is 85 and the low will drop to 67 this evening. A 50 percent chance of rain is possible meaning half the county could get rain this evening.

Tuesday will have patchy fog before 8 a.m. and the chance of rain will remain 50 percent for the county. Wednesday’s chances of rain will drop to 40 percent. Thursday will have a 20 percent chance of rain.

National Weather Service forecasts the drought will persist going into the end of the month. A longterm forecast for fall shows the drought will likely remain but conditions will improve.
