BROOKHAVEN — Rain fell from the skies Monday afternoon and it is likely more will come Tuesday. More rain is needed to lift the current burn ban and drought conditions.

About 70 percent of Lincoln County got rain Monday. Pockets along I-55 north of Brookhaven and out towards the community of Bahalia got between .01 inches to .1 inches of rain. Brookhaven and south along I-55 got .10 to .25 inches of rain according to a graphic made by NWS Jackson. Ruth and Southeast Lincoln County got the bulk of rainfall with .5 to 1 inch of rain.

Rain is in the forecast again for Tuesday afternoon. NWS Jackson forecasts rain chances to be best after 3 p.m. but only 40 percent of the county is expected to see rain. Precipitation chances drop to 30 percent Wednesday and 20 percent Thursday before sunny dry weather returns.

Conditions are still dry and ideal for fire to spread quickly. Lincoln County remains under a burn ban until further notice. Drought conditions are forecast to remain but should improve by the end of fall.
