HOG CHAIN — A road maintained by the county was not listed on the official road register before supervisors voted to make it official Monday. Cut Through Road SE is now an official road. 

District 3 Supervisor Nolan Williamson said the road connecting Hog Chain and Pricedale has always been called Cut Through Road, is maintained by the county and even received money from FEMA about 18 years ago. Lincoln County Engineer Ryan Holmes said the road is on their street maps but was somehow left off of the road register. 

“Some people bought some land and are moving in and we are trying to get them an address,” Williamson said. 

Cut Through Road SE is 0.22 miles long and the motion to make it official was approved unanimously. 

State Paperwork 

Supervisors had to approve a Board Order as requested by the state to progress on a Lott Smith Bridge project. The bridge crosses the Bayou Pierre right down the hill from Mt. Zion Baptist Church. It was built in 1961 and is listed as a posted bridge for 17 tons according to the Mississippi Office of State Aid Road Construction.

Mississippi’s Emergency Road and Bridge Repair funds totaling $1,441,620 will pay for work. Any detour routes will be 9 miles. 

Holmes said supervisors approved a Memorandum of Agreement at a meeting in September. He told the board the state office requested a Board Order deeming him the Engineer of Record for the project. A motion was made and the board order was approved.
