BROOKHAVEN — Lincoln County finally got much needed rain Wednesday. The precipitation was not anywhere close enough to the rain needed to lift the drought conditions or the burn ban.

From Friday to next Thursday, a sunny days are forecast ahead which means the conditions will continue to be dry. As a result, fire danger remains a concern especially with 20 mph wind gusts forecast for Saturday.

Lincoln County is under a burn ban until further notice along with 51 other counties in Mississippi. Do not attempt to burn anything and be sure to be cautious. Management practices such as brush hogging or mowing should not be attempted due to the risk of starting a fire.

All it takes is one spark to get a fire going. Mississippi Forestry Commission reminds people that all it takes is one spark or ember to start a wildfire. Wind, low humidity and dry conditions will only exacerbate the spread of fire.

Lincoln County will issue citations for any violation of the burn ban. People are liable for any damages caused to other properties by a fire they start. Wind gusts on Sunday and Monday will also reach 25 mph.
