LOYD STAR — It seems the northwest corner of  Lincoln County could get the first freeze of fall. National Weather Service in Jackson shows there is a limited threat of frost for the Loyd Star, Mt.Zion and Caseyville Communities next week.

Temperatures are forecast to drop lows of 30 to 34 degrees next Thursday. A frost and bitter freeze is possible for central Mississippi and part of Lincoln County.

NWS Jackson warns it will be a killing freeze to tender vegetation.

A chance of rain is also in the forecast to start next week.

Monday and Tuesday have improved from chance of sprinkles to a 20 percent chance of rain. The word choice is important as rain lasts longer than a shower. Lincoln County needs a lot of rain to get out of drought and burn ban conditions though.

Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts this weekend. Saturday and Sunday should have highs near 86 and lows of 60s. Sunday night will be the last day of consistent southeastern wind as a northern wind will prevail starting Monday.
