Going on two days since last wildfire in Lincoln County

BROOKHAVEN — A woods fire on Timber Lane Wednesday was the last reported wildfire in Lincoln County this week. Good news when fires burn in Amite and Adams County and in other parts of Mississippi.

Lincoln County Emergency Management Agency Director Chris Reid said there were no new fires to report Friday afternoon. A burn ban remains in effect until further notice. Dry conditions, gusty winds and low humidity could allow a fire to quickly get out of control. Gusty winds are forecast for Monday through Tuesday with 20 to 25 mph gusts.

Please remember to exercise caution and refrain from burning during the burn ban. Citations will be issued for any violations and people who start fires are liable for the damage they cause to other property.

Lincoln County and much of Southwest Mississippi remains in extreme drought conditions and it is unlikely the burn ban will be lifted anytime soon. A substantial amount of rainfall is needed to bring the region out of the drought and burn ban.
