BROOKHAVEN — Loyd Star led going into the second round of the MHSAA 1A-2A State Boys Golf Tournament but could not hold off a strong effort by Eupora on the last day of the season. The Eagles beat Loyd Star by four strokes to claim a state title.

Hornet golfers hung their heads in the dining room at the Clubs at Ole Brook. Coaches Lydia King and Chris King did their best to console the golfers as did Shane Easterling and Ole Brook General Manager Jeff Henning.

It is the second straight season where the Hornets finished as runners up. Loyd Star finished the tournament shooting 77 over par as a team while Eupora finished the tournament shooting 73 over par to win by four strokes.

Loyd Star’s Brody Thibodeaux finished as the third place medalist individually. He and the rest of the Hornets are still young and should return as a strong team next year.

“Good job to all of you. It was rough conditions to play in,” Henning said. “The Country club and the city of Brookhaven thank you for coming. It is a privilege to host this tournament. Lydia and Chris, you do a great job running this tournament.”

Check back Wednesday for the official results and standings.
