Something to be proud of: Loyd Star freshman finishes second in national voting

LOYD STAR — A freshman tailback at Loyd Star placed second in national voting Monday evening. ScoreBook Live sponsored a voting contest for the best Top 20 Freshmen Football Players across the country.

Jordyn Kees, a freshman at Loyd Star, was the only Mississippi Player on the national Top 20 list. Kees rushed for 1,791 yards in the regular season, scored 25 touchdowns on 245 carries. He averages 7.3 yards per carry going into a playoff game against Lake this Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. if you want to see the strong athlete and the Hornets open up the post season.

ScoreBook Live shows Kees finished second in the contest with 41.79 percent of the vote, or 95,185 votes. He trailed Kingston Anetema of North, California who finished with 107,917 votes.

Anetema is one of the “most productive receivers in Los Angeles County,” according to ScoreBook Live. MaxPreps stats show Anetema has 1,148 receiving yards this season on 66 receptions. The young receiver has 14 touchdowns. The community Anetema is from has a population of 143,600 which is four times the size of Lincoln County’s population.

Kees also was selected as Farm Bureau’s Mr. Hustle this week.
