Light it up: Christmas tree lighting is Friday

Published 8:31 am Tuesday, November 21, 2023

Brookhaven will soon deck the halls and Railroad Park for the Christmas Season.

Black Friday will see the official lighting of a giant Christmas tree in downtown Brookhaven. Hosted by the Brookhaven Tourism Council, the lighting program will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is the second annual tree lighting.

The 32-foot-tall artificial tree stands at the south end of the old train depot in Railroad Park. Boasting nearly 16,000 lights, the tree weighs in at more than 3,000 pounds.

The event will kick off with Christmas carols sung by Mississippi School of the Arts students and the Brookhaven High School Choir, followed by the tree lighting. Mike Rob and The 601 Band will perform on the Railroad Park Stage 7-9 p.m.

Pictures with Santa himself will be available from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Christmas Log Cabin, and kids activities will be available during those same hours — bounce houses, the Choo-Choo Train, face painting, and a 360-degree photo booth.

All the activities are free.

The tree will be ready to shine nearly a week before the Christmas Parade in Brookhaven on Nov. 30. The parade starts at 6:30 p.m. Anyone who wants to register for the parade can call the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce at 601-833-1411 or visit the chamber website.  [https://brookhavenchamber.org/wp/]
