Severe storms forecast for weekend

BROOKHAVEN — Sunshine and blue skies will soon come to an end. National Weather Service Office in Jackson forecasts severe storms for Lincoln County this weekend.
Storms could begin Friday night with a 20 percent chance of rain and increasing to 60 percent chance of rain Saturday. Wind gusts will be around 20 mph.
The high Saturday is 76 before more rain comes in the evening plunging temperatures down to 43 degrees. There is an 80 percent chance of rain Saturday.
Wind will continue to blow hard Sunday with gusts reaching 30 mph out of the north and 15 to 20 mph sustained winds.
NWS Jackson warns the severe storms this weekend could have damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and could produce tornadoes. Hail could be a quarter to golf ball size.
The timing of this severe weather threat is Saturday afternoon and into the evening with Northwest Lincoln County at the greatest risk.
