Damaging winds forecast today

BROOKHAVEN — Ol Saint Nick will have to fight damaging wind gusts and rain to deliver presents tonight. National Weather Service forecasts Christmas Eve to be wet and windy going into Christmas morning.

Showers are likely all day today with a 100 percent chance of rain for Lincoln County. Rainfall could be between three quarters of an inch to a full inch. Temperatures will be at a high of 64 degrees. Winds will be a sustained 15 mph and gusts of wind could hit 45 mph.

Sunday night will cool to a low of 57 with a 100 percent chance of rain Rainfall amounts could be between three quarters of an inch to a full inch. Santa Clause might need a rain coat to deliver presents. He will also face 35 mph wind gusts.

NWS Jackson warns the winds Sunday could be damaging winds. These strong winds could cause weakened trees to fall or limbs to break off and fall. Drought and bug killed trees might be most susceptible to damaging winds. Pay attention to conditions if you are hunting in the woods today. High profile vehicles may become unsteady in winds.

Winds will be strong from 10 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Christmas Day, Monday, will have a forecasted high of 69 degrees before cooling off to a low of 41.
