Barbara Sisson Doremus

Barbara Sisson Doremus residing in Brookhaven, MS passed away peacefully, Sunday December 31, 2023. Barbara was born April 20, 1935 in Mathison, Mississippi to parents James Oliver Sisson and Genellah Willingham.
Barbara graduated from Lee High School in Columbus, Mississippi. Barbara was a cheerleader and involved in various social and athletic events. Upon graduation Barbara attended Mississippi State College for Women. Barbara worked for MSCW in the Registrar’s office.
While in high school Barbara met James W. Doremus Jr. who later became her husband. Barbara and James had four children. James W. Doremus III (Janet) of Wichita, KS; Vincent Jeffery Doremus (Terry) of Brookhaven, MS; Joseph David Doremus (Sibyl) of Winter Park, FL; and Janet Doremus Wamnes (Bob – deceased) of Port St. Lucie, FL. Barbara had six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Barbara and James were married in 1954 and were married until his death in 2008. Barbara and James began life together in Columbus, Mississippi. They remained in Columbus until 1967 when they moved to Brookhaven, MS. While in Brookhaven, Barbara was employed by Herring Gas Company and later by Lakeview Apartments. Barbara and James lived for a short time in Arkansas before settling in Anniston, Alabama where James was the corporate engineer for Hager Hinge. While in Anniston, Barbara worked for Blue Mountain Industries. Throughout her career, Barbara was known as an outstanding typist and administrator. Barbara always enjoyed working in her yard. Spring in her Anniston yard was a showstopper of azaleas and cherry trees. Summer was filled with hydrangeas, lilies, and daises.
Barbara returned to Brookhaven, Mississippi in 2019. She was a resident of The Aspen of Brookhaven. The family would like to thank all the employees of the Aspen for their wonderful care and concern.
Visitation will be Friday, January 5 at 10 A.M. at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel, 620 Golden Springs Road, Anniston, AL. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M.
