Friday rain calm before Monday storms

BROOKHAVEN — Rain is drumming away in downtown Brookhaven Friday afternoon and should drop temperatures down to a low of 41 tonight. Brookhaven could have an inch to an inch and a half of rain by Saturday morning as rain continues tonight.
Intermittent drizzle will likely greet hunters making their way to stands. The rainfall should end by 10 a.m. Mostly cloudy skies should make of even lighting if you are afield Saturday. Winds will be west by northwest at 5 to 10 mph with gusts reaching 20 mph.
Saturday night will be cloudy with a low of 37. Sunday will be sunny with a high of 57 but you better enjoy the sunny and warm day while you can.
National Weather Service in Jackson forecasts Monday to be a wet one. Showers and thunderstorms are likely for the area with precipitation chances at 90 percent. Most rainfall will be after 1 p.m. and some of the storms could be severe.
NWS warns the severe storms Monday pose a slight threat to Brookhaven and Lincoln County and is likely to hit Monday night. Wind gusts could reach 35 mph Monday with sustained speeds around 20 to 25 mph. Fowl weather for duck hunters.
Tuesday’s chance of rain is 60 percent. Wind speeds could be around 20 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 40 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent. NWS Jackson warns the high winds Tuesday could be damaging as weak trees and limbs may break and fall. High profile vehicles could become unstable in gusts. The timing of this threat is from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
