Severe storms threaten Brookhaven Monday, Tuesday

BROOKHAVEN — Severe weather looms in the forecast Monday and Tuesday according to the National Weather Service in Jackson. Storms could hit Lincoln County and Southwest Mississippi with heavy rainfall and wind.

Damaging winds could hit Monday night and storms could produce tornadoes for Lincoln County according to NWS. Storms could hit between 6 pm to 3am.

Flash flooding could strike Monday night with rainfall around three to six inches in the forecast and more expected in localized rain events. Roads maybe be closed and structures may become inundated. Be cautious around low lying areas and bodies of water.

This flash flooding could be between 6 pm and 4 am Tuesday. Remember to turn around and don’t drown.

Sustained winds of 20 to 25 mph could hit Monday and Tuesday causing downed trees and power lines. The danger is in gusts that will reach 30-50 mph.

A flash flood watch and wind advisory are both in effect Monday and Tuesday. The chance of rain is 100 percent Monday.
