Athletic events fall victim to severe weather

BROOKHAVEN — Severe storms forecast for Southwest Mississippi have canceled a few local athletic events Monday night. Soccer and basketball games for our local schools have fallen victim.
West Lincoln and Bogue Chitto, initially scheduled to play soccer tonight, has postponed the match. Bears head coach Dane Hodges confirmed the cancelation and said the match will likely be played on Friday weather permiting.
Brookhaven Academy head coach Alex Brown said their district MAIS 5A boys soccer match against Adams County Christian School was cancelled for tonight and will be made up at a later date. He said it is possible the game could be moved to Tuesday afternoon at Co-Lin Community College but he will have more information later.
Loyd Star Attendance Center announced on Facebook that tonight’s basketball games against Amite County had been canceled due to inclement weather. The Hornet’s soccer games scheduled against Franklin County for tonight were moved to Tuesday. Kickoff will be at 5 p.m. for girls varsity and 6:30 p.m. for boys varsity.
Forecasted rainfall could cause havoc after the storms Tuesday afternoon. Fields may be unplayable causing further soccer game cancelations or moving the matches to different locations. Check back for more updates on scheduled athletic events to see if the game is still on.
More severe weather is forecast for later this week which could complicate the soccer schedule.
