BROOKHAVEN — Mayor Joe Cox announced the Brookhaven Building located at 1154 Beltline Drive will open as a warming shelter as Winter Storm Heather nears. Temperatures are forecast to fall below freezing tonight and into Tuesday and Wednesday.

The warming shelter will open at 3 p.m. Monday and close at 10 a.m. Wednesday for anyone who may need a place to stay. People need to bring essential supplies such as medications, food, bottled water, blankets, and personal items. Pets are not allowed. Only restrooms and a few chairs will be provided at the warming shelter.

Residents should remember to refrain from unnecessary travel especially once roads become slick with winter precipitation. Mississippi Emergency Management Agency reports one death due to Winter Storm Heather after a vehicle crashed in Humphreys County Sunday night.
