Winter weather shuffles practices, games

BROOKHAVEN — Winter weather has canceled some games scheduled for Tuesday including Brookhaven Academy’s soccer match against Park Place and a basketball game against Bowling Green. Area schools have also canceled class due to the inclement weather threat. 

BA Soccer Head Coach Alex Brown said his team would train Monday in their indoor practice gym but will not play or practice Tuesday. Brookhaven Academy canceled school Tuesday. 

If weather permits, Brown said the team will practice Wednesday afternoon to prepare for their home district match against Park Place Christian on Thursday. Kickoff for the Thursday night match is at 5:30 p.m.

In basketball, Brookhaven High School was set to play Holmes County Central Monday night but the game was canceled due to inclement weather. Tuesday night the Panthers are set to play district foe South Jones with girls tipping off at 6 p.m. Enterprise is scheduled to play Lumberton in basketball Tuesday night. It is unknown at this time if the games will be canceled.

Brookhaven Academy Coach Ron Kessler said his squad practiced Monday afternoon and will hope to make up the game against Bowling Green in early February. Kessler added he hoped they could get back to school with regular activities for Wednesday and Thursday. Brookhaven Academy has a big game against Parklane Friday night. 

In soccer, Brookhaven High School is scheduled to play at North Pike Tuesday night with girls kicking off at 5 followed by the boys varsity. Loyd Star was set to play at Wesson but the match was canceled due to school being canceled.
