BROOKHAVEN — A new business is coming to Brookhaven. West Lincoln alumni Jackie Ready said she is excited to move her store Diamonds in the Rough from Bude to US51 in Brookhaven.

The consignment and boutique store is relocating to 208 US51 in Brookhaven where Judy’s II Shoes was before the shoe shop closed in January. Ready said Judy’s II Shoes owner retired and opened up an opportunity for her to move the business to Brookhaven.

She is a current resident of Smithdale and opened her business in September in Bude. When she started to open her business she did not know the Homochitto River Bridge on US98 would be closed. The bridge closure impacted traffic and her business so she looked for a chance to move.

“I had looked into some places in McComb. They have a popular consignment shop there called Cornerstone that has three different stores there,” Ready said. “I went to school at West Lincoln.

I’m familiar with brookhaven and know a lot of people here. It is a lot of work to move  but we are excited about it. I wanted to open up here to begin with.”

She initially worked in the medical field before a friend of hers asked if she wanted to be an assistant manager for St. Andrews in McComb. Her experience with retail at St. Andrews got the gears turning and she decided to open up her own boutique and consignment store.

Diamonds in the Rough’s opening date will be announced once the move is complete. The store is currently selling items in Bude as they work toward moving this weekend. Ready said she has a ton of inventory they have worked to pack or sell.

It might take several trips with moving trucks but she is ready to come to Brookhaven.

“I expect it will be a lot busier. Hopefully I’ll see some old faces I hadn’t seen in a while and just get to meet some new people,” Ready said. “I really enjoy being in this town. I’m happy to be back.”
