Isolated severe storms in Monday’s forecast for Brookhaven

BROOKHAVEN — The National Weather Service in Jackson warns there is a risk of isolated severe storms Monday and Tuesday. The storms could produce damaging wind gusts and hail up to a quarter in size.
Storms threaten Monday afternoon from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. NWS Jackson warns hail is the most concerning weather threat today. Chances of rain today are 50 percent with the best chances after 3 p.m. Wind gusts are expected to hit 20 mph. Rainfall chances will pick up tonight into 80 percent. The high will be 78 with a low of 61 Monday night.
Tuesday’s storms will move through the area between 8 a.m. and noon with damaging winds the most concerning weather threat. There is a 70 percent chance of rain with showers likely and a chance of a thunderstorm before 1 p.m. The high is 74 Tuesday.
NWS Jackson advises there is a chance for heavy rainfall late this week from Thursday into Friday. Localized flash flooding especially in low lying areas and urban areas is possible. Minor river flooding could be possible. The heavy rainfall outlook could change for portions of the NWS Jackson coverage area as the week progresses. Check back for more updates.
