Lincoln County at slight risk of severe storms Friday

BROOKHAVEN — Isolated severe storms moved through Lincoln County Tuesday morning and more storms are expected again Friday. The National Weather Service in Jackson warns of severe storms and flash flooding potential Friday.

According to the NWS, Lincoln County is at a slight risk of severe storms with damaging wind gusts reaching 60 mph, hail up to a quarter in size and tornadoes could be possible. The timing of the storm is noon Friday into Saturday morning at 3 a.m. although it could change as the severe weather approaches.

A limited threat of flash flooding is forecast for the area Friday accompanying the severe storms. Localized flash flooding is possible in low lying and urban areas. Minor river flooding is also possible. Friday is forecast to have a 90 percent chance of precipitation. Rainfall amounts are currently forecast to be three quarters of an inch to a full inch.

Thursday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a high of 78. Thursday night will have a 20 percent chance of rain with lows dropping down to 59.

After Friday, there is no chance of rain in the forecast through next Tuesday.
