BROOKHAVEN — Open Heart Senior Home Care LLC. celebrated the opening of a new location in Brookhaven with a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning. Owner Casandra Holmes said the day was overly exciting for her and she loves being able to bring the company’s love and care to a new community.

Open Heart Senior Home Care offices are located at 110 West Court Street. Holmes said they typically have three employees in the main office but several workers out in the field serving people in their homes.

She started the company in 2017 and initially opened in Port Gibson. Her business has since grown to include locations in Vicksburg and now Brookhaven to serve Adams, Claiborne, Copiah, Jefferson, Hinds, Lincoln and Warren Counties. Holmes said her passion for healthcare started long before she opened the business.

“It was all because of my grandmother Irene Holmes. She would take us to the nursing home to volunteer and visit when I was 15,” Holmes said. “I didn’t like it at first and I wasn’t sure about it. I ultimately fell in love with it. It is what I love to do, caring for other people. If I know someone is down it makes me feel good to lift them up.”

Open Heart Senior Home Care offers homemaker services, companionship, errands, respite care, private duty and personal care. The business office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Holmes said the move to Brookhaven was in her plan. She loves visiting Brookhaven to shop and bought a vehicle from Toyota in Brookhaven. The business expansion will allow her to share the love with Brookhaven.

“I never thought it would grow to be this big. Being able to help someone is all I ever wanted,” Holmes said. “It is about love and sharing joy. That is what Open Heart Care is all about. We want to make sure people are comfortable in their home.”

Katie Nations, Program Director for the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the new business to town. She thanked them for investing in downtown Brookhaven.

“You are providing a needed service here in our area,” Nations said. “I can tell by all the smiles you are a caring staff.”
